Help a Peke

Rossi the Peke

My Story

It was the best of days, it was the worst of days.  Sunday, March 22, 2009 started like just any other day.  Little did I know that it would be the last day I’d be able to walk without pain and a limp for a very long time.

I don’t see myself as a dare-devil by any means.  But, I do love to jump and I do love to ski.  One minute I was in the air with my fur flying, the next minute I was on the ground and could no longer feel my foot.  Lady Godiva, my girlfriend was there, so I didn’t want to cry out in pain.  There was no “walking it off” because I had no control of my foot.

On Monday I thought my foot would be back to normal.  Unfortuantely it wasn’t.  A quick trip to the vet turned into an all day experience.  Five x-rays later and it was confirmed.  My tendons in my foot were ruptured.  Chances are they will never heal.  According to my doctor, the only way to get use of my foot is thru surgery.

Ok, I’ll admit at my age, surgery is not something I take lightly.  Especially with a $2,000 plus price tag.  I have insurance, but they will not confirm they will cover me.  Some parts of the surgery may be excluded.  They also told me that if they cover it, the most they will cover is $800 and I have to pay it first (they will reimburse).  The worst part is that I am jobless and rely on my humans to cover all my expenses.  So, I am hoping things work out there.

So, why the site and the shirts and the campaign?  To raise awareness about safe jumping and to hopefully help out my humans.

Want to support me?  Buy a t-shirt, keychain, leave a comment, or pass this on to a friend.  Thanks!
